Abstract
1342865 Polybutadiene derivatives BAYER AG 6 April 1972 [7 April 1971] 15956/72 Heading C3P [Also in Division C7] Polybutadiene derivatives are obtained by reacting together, simultaneously or in stages at 180-270‹ C. in the absence of air, (i) 85-10 wt. per cent of a polybutadiene oil having a viscosity of 3-100 poise at 20‹ C., (ii) 10-70 wt. per cent of unsaturated fatty acid ester, e.g. soya oil, and (iii) 5-20 wt. per cent of maleic anhydride. The products may be reacted with a further monomer, e.g. styrene, and may be hydrolysed and neutralized, preferably to a degree of 40-70%. In the example, polybutadiene oil is first reacted with soya oil, the product then reacted with maleic anhydride in the presence of copper naphthenate, this product then reacted with styrene, arid this product then hydrolysed and neutralized with triethylamine. The final product is mixed with ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, water and carbon black to form an aqueous lacquer for use in electrodeposition.
