Abstract

1518005 Modified diene polymers SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 5 Feb 1976 [7 Feb 1975 13 Feb 1975] 4578/76 Headings C3M, C3P and C3R Modified polymers are produced by (1) forming an adduct between an alpha,#-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or an anhydride thereof and a liquid polymer of a conjugated diolefin having a number average M.W. of 150-3000, a viscosity of 2-5000 cps at 30‹ C. and at least 50% cis-1,4 structure, and (2) reacting said adduct with an alcohol or amine to effect diesterification or imidation, the final product having an acid value of not more than 10. In examples, liquid polybutadienes are reacted with maleic anhydride, and the resulting adducts with nbutanol, 2-ethyl hexanol, dodecanol, hexylamine or oleylamine. The above products are used in ink or paint compositions with the usual conventional ingredients. In some examples, the product is mixed with a rosin-modified phenol resin to give a resin binder for such compositions.
