Abstract
1342430 Fluorinated cyclobutanes W R GRACE & CO 22 Nov 1971 [20 Nov 1970 9 Aug 1971 (3)] 54190/71 Addition to 1342427 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises the novel compounds 1,2,2 - trifluorocyclobutane and 1 - bromo- 1,2,2 - trifluorocyclobutane, and their preparation by reacting compounds of the formula H 2 C=C(Z) 2 , wherein the groups Z are both H or both F with compounds of the formula YFC = C(Z) 2 , when Y is H, Cl or Br, and the groups 2 are, respectively, both F or both H, and then, when Y is Cl, reducing the reaction products to give 1,2,2-trifluorocyclobutane. 1 - Chloro - 1,2,2 - trifluorocyclobutane is prepared by reacting chlorotrifluoroethylene with ethylene.
