1342429 Fluorinated cyclobutanes W R GRACE & CO 22 Nov 1971 [27 Nov 1970 10 May 1971 9 Aug 1971 (3)] 54189/71 Addition to 1342427 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises the novel compounds 1 - chloro - 1,2,2,3,3 - pentafluorocyclobutane, 1,4 - dichloro - 1,2,2,4 - tetrafluorocyclobutane and 1,2,2,3,3 - pentafluoro - 1 - methyl - cyclobutane and their preparation by reacting compounds of the formula H 2 C = CFZ<SP>1</SP>, wherein Z<SP>1</SP> is (a) F or (b) Cl or CH 3 , with compounds of the formula Z<SP>2</SP>FC = CFY, wherein Z<SP>2</SP> is, respectively (a) Cl or CH 3 or (b) F, and Y is F or Cl. 1,4- Dichloro - 1,2,2,4 - tetrafluorocyclobutane is also prepared by reacting ClFC=CF 2 with vinylidene chloride and fluorinating the resulting 1,4,4 - trichloro - 1,2,2 - trifluorocyclobutane.
