1341576 Toupees J SCHWEIFER 2 Aug 1971 [1 Aug 1970 23 Jan 1971] 36179/71 Heading A4V A toupee is secured by a retaining element which is attached to the remaining natural hair and which can be releasably connected to the toupee. Several natural hairs 2 are formed into a strand 7 by drawing the hairs one or two at a time through an opening 4 in the plate 3 with tweezers and gathering these hairs together with a loop 8. The strand is then drawn through the same opening several times using the bent needle 9 attached to loop 8. A strand of hair may be drawn through each opening 4. A drop of adhesive may be applied to each fastened strand on the side remote from the scalp. The tongue of a fastening element attached to the toupee is held in the aperture 5. Retaining elements may be placed at the back of the head and on the temples. The front of the toupee may be held by retaining elements on bands which join elements attached to the hair. The hair may be held in the retaining element in other ways. The plate may have spiral tapering slits into which the hair is clamped or the hair may be clamped between two parts of the element. In this latter case the element may have two plates biased together by a spring hinge member or may comprise a plate with openings through which the hair is threaded and a cap which grips the periphery of the plate trapping the hair. In a modification, both the retaining element and the fastening element on the toupee may have self-adhesive zones. In a further modification, the hair is threaded through a flattened ring and held by a member which closes one end of the ring. The ring has a hook on its upper surface which engages on eye on the fastening member attached to the toupee.
