Abstract

1341340 Lathe with tool clamping apparatus WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK GILDEMEISTER & CO AG 8 Aug 1972 [12 Aug 1971] 36915/72 Heading B3T A lathe incorporating tool changing apparatus comprises a saddle on which is mounted a cross slide 3 having a tool holder clamping device 4. A tool storage magazine 6 is located adjacent and connected with the cross slide and is movable with the saddle in a longitudinal direction towards and away from a workpiece 2 carried in the lathe chuck 1, and a tool changing mechanism is connected to the cross slide and situated between the magazine 6 and the tool clamping device 4. The tool changing mechanism is in the form of a pivotable arm 14 with gripping member 14a, 14b at its respective ends and which is operatively controlled to simultaneously grip a tool holder in the magazine and the tool clamping device and rotate through 180 degrees to exchange the tools. The arm 14 is displaceable along its pivot axis to lift the respective tools clear of the magazine and clamping device prior to its pivoting action. The magazine 6 is in the form of an endless chain with tool holder carrying plates secured thereto and which is rotatable around end sprockets 7 to bring the required tools with their holders into position to facilitate the tool changing operation. The operation is controlled in accordance with the machining cycle and actuated by fluid pressure means.
