Abstract

1340329 Flexible polyurethane foams UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 19 April 1971 [24 Feb 1970] 8913/70 Heading C3R Flexible polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting a mixture comprising at least two polyether triols having differing molecular weights, the triol of lower M.W. having a maximum M.W. of 1700, a cyclic polyisocyanate composition comprising a cyclic polyisocyanate component amounting to at least 85% by weight of the composition and having two aromatic rings and two isocyanate groups per mol. of component, water, a catalyst to promote the isocyanate-water reaction, a catalyst to promote the isocyanate-triol reaction and a foamstabilizing agent. The triols are most preferably prepared by reacting propylene oxide with hexane triol and the mixture thereof suitably has a minimum average M.W. of 1200. The preferred cyclic polyisocyanate component is diphenylmethane diisocyanate which may be mixed with at least one cyclic polyisocyanate of higher frictionality. Tertiary amine and organometallic catalysts are used and the foam stabilizing agent is preferably a polydimethylsiloxanepolyoxyalkylene copolymer.
