Abstract
1340284 Making commutators BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 1 June 1972 [3 June 1971] 25668/72 Heading B3A [Also in Division H2] In making a commutator (see Division H2) in which the segments are held together by a shrink ring, a shrink ring is first totally covered with a layer of insulation, then heated to expand its diameter and finally shrunk on to an assembly of segments by allowing it to cool. The insulation may be a lapped polyimide tape which may have a coating of synthetic fluorocarbon resin. There may in addition be a layer of mica or mica-loaded paper. Further layers of mica or mica-loaded paper and electrically insulating plastics material may be disposed between the insulated shrink ring and the segments.
