Abstract

1339985 Two part couplings CAMBRIDGE THERMIONIC CORP 19 April 1971 [20 July 1970] 24184/71 Heading H2E A connector comprises a socket-contact formed of a resilient conductive strip and means which is movable to compress a portion of the strip and move a curved portion of the strip against a complementary male-contact inserted in the socket, thereby making or increasing the pressure of connection between the contacts. The strip 16 is held within a fixed member 20 and a movable member 22 with one free end engaged by a lip 36 and the other extending through the fixed member for connection to an external circuit, and in the relaxed condition (Fig. 2) the curved portion 16À4 is separated from a flat portion 16À23 so that a pin 12 (which may be the terminal of an integrated circuit) can be inserted with little force. Connection between the inserted pin 12 and the contact surface 26 of the curved portion is ensured by moving member 22 to the position of Fig. 4, compressing the portion 16À3 and forcing the curved portion to wipingly engage the pin and press it against the flat portion 16À23, the member 22 being retained in the connected position by a pin 38. In another embodiment (Figs. 5-9, not shown) a connector comprises a plurality of socket contacts housed in a fixed base (120) resting on a circuit board, a movable base member (122) having a central opening (164) through which the male contacts (112) enter and screws (138) which are turned to move the member (122) relative to base (120) and bring the socket-contacts into engagement with the male contacts. In Fig. 10 (not shown) the movable base member (222) moves relative to and engages in the fixed base member (220) by a snap fastener (238) engaging a grooved slot (239). A further embodiment (Figs. 11-15, not shown) shows the edge of a printed circuit board (314) engaged between pairs of socket contacts (316) with a movable base member moved either by screws (338) or a cam-lever (356).
