Abstract
1338859 Burner assembly JOHN ZINK CO 19 Oct 1972 48265/72 Heading F4T A regenerative tile 12 for a burner assembly comprises a substantially cylindrical shell 14, an annular ceramic member 17 with a substantially cylindrical inner surface 29 mounted within a downstream portion of the shell 14, a second annular ceramic member 24 having an outer diameter less than the diameter of said inner surface 29 supported within the shell adjacent the upstream end of the first ceramic member 17 so as to define an annular passage 36 for the passage of air admitted to the shell 14, the second ceramic member 24 having an arcuate inner surface 32 defining a central opening 31 therethrough of a cross-section that tapers continuously in the downstream direction, a plurality of circumferentially spaced ports 53 in the opening 31 through which fuel may be discharged and means adjacent the outer periphery of the ceramic member 24 for admitting air to the annular passage 36. The ceramic member 24 is carried by a flange 23 on a ring 22 supported by the shell 14. A fuel gun 51 with the ports 53 provides a substantially conical spray of atomized fuel. Air entering through large openings 40 in the shell 14 moves substantially axially of the tile 12 and avoids swirling the ignited fuel, and air entering through openings 34 and passing through the passage 36 prevents deposit of incompletely burned fuel on the surface 29. The shell 14 is secured to an end wall 16 which is supported by a wall 10 of a furnace. In an alternative embodiment of the tile the openings 34 are replaced by openings (34a), Fig. 3 (not shown), in a ring member (22a).
