Abstract

1338821 Polystyrene foam and paper laminate LAVORAZIONE MATERIE PLASTICHE SpA 4 Jan 1971 [5 Jan 1970] 320/71 Heading B5N A laminate comprises a reinforcing sheet of kraft paper having adhesively bonded to each of its surfaces a closed-cell polystyrene foam layer with a specific gravity of from 0À07 to 0À1, the two foam layers having substantially the same thickness and the overall thickness of the laminate being from 5 to 7 mm. The foam layers may be in a state of pre-compression in the plane of the laminate. Bonding of the layers may be effected by means of an adhesive or by spraying the paper layer with a solvent for polystyrene such as methylethyl ketone or amyl acetate. The laminate is produced by adhering a layer of the unheated foam to each surface of the paper sheet while maintaining the sheet under tension, heating to consolidate the bond and expand the cells of the foam layers while simultaneously applying expansion - limiting means such as freely rotatable rollers or endless bands to the surfaces of the laminate, and cooling by means of blowers.
