1338709 Preparation of 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 29 July 1971 [6 Aug 1970] 35672/71 Heading C2C A process for the preparation of 2,6-di-tertbutylphenol from phenol and isobutene in the presence of aluminium phenolate as a catalyst at temperatures of from 80‹ to 100‹ C. and under a pressure of from 20 to 5 atmosphere gauge, comprises adding water or solid or aqueous alkali metal hydroxide to the crude product obtained and then distilling or immediately fractionating the mixture.
