Abstract
1338238 Discharge display panels OWENSILLINOIS Inc 18 Dec 1970 [19 Dec 1969] 60271/70 Heading H1D A gaseous discharge display panel comprises an ionizable gas within a chamber formed by a pair of dielectric charge storage members backed by electrodes, the electrodes behind each dielectric member being transversely oriented with respect to those behind the other dielectric member so as to define a plurality of discharge units, the gas pressure being such as to be adjacent the minimum of a plot of breakdown voltage against the product of the gas pressure and the separation of the dielectric members. The gas preferably comprises 99À5 to 99À9% atoms of neon, the remainder being at least one gas selected from argon, krypton, and xenon. The dielectric members are preferably 1 to 2 mils thick, of dielectric constant about 16, and separated by less than 10 mils. The product of the gas pressure and dielectric separation should be in the range 4À5 to 5À1 centimetre-Torr.
