Abstract

A gas discharge device, of the type in which a pair of thin, nominally parallel dielectric members constitute at least a portion of structural members that form charge accumulation walls of a thin gas chamber and transversely oriented conductor assemblies on gas-free chamber surfaces of said thin dielectric members; respectively they are fed with operating potentials to selectively effect multiple discharges between selected crossing points of a pair of conductors from each set and sustain and terminate discharges once they have been initiated; said chamber containing an ionizable gaseous medium, characterized in that said gas has a relatively low rupture voltage, which is substantially constant in a selected range of the variation of the discharge distance, the gas pressure being substantially constant in said chamber, in the said range.
