Abstract

1338136 Windscreens SAINT-GOBAIN 19 April 1971 [21 March 1970] 24877/71 Heading B7J [Also in Division H4] A transparent panel, such as a vehicle window, which is provided with at least one aerial, is characterized by tuning elements being arranged directly thereon and coupled between the aerial and a connector. As described, a homogeneous or laminated panel 1, Fig. 1, has arranged thereon an aerial comprising horizontal branches 2, 2 and vertical conductors 3, 4. The aerial conductors may consist of silver strips baked on to a glass surface. One or more tuning elements and a connector are indicated at 5, at the lower ends of the conductors 3, 4. In one embodiment, a folded transmission line 6, Fig. 5, is connected to the ends of the conductors 3, 4 and a centre-tap thereon is connected through a capacitor having two comb-like electrodes 10, 11 to a connector 8. The tuning elements are formed on the surface of the panel, similarly to the aerial conductors. The transmission line or the capacitor may alone be provided (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). In another embodiment tuning capacitances are provided by means of conductor strips which are applied on each side of an aerial conductor, and are parallel to it. Said conductor strips are both connected to a further connector (Fig. 4, not shown). An arrangement is also described in which a tuning inductor is formed as two spiral windings on opposite sides of a panel connected together through a hole 16, Fig. 6. Ferrite platelets 15, 15 are arranged on the spirals to increase the inductance values.
