Abstract

955,071. Microwave filters. A. C. COSSOR Ltd. Jan. 5, 1960 [Jan. 12, 1959], No. 1048/59. Heading H1W. A strip-line transmission device, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises two earth planes 10, 11 spaced apart and between them a solid insulating sheet 12 having on each side thereof an input strip 15, an output strip 16 and between them a series of conducting strips 17, 19, 18 arranged parallel to one another, the input and output strips 15, 16 being conductively connected to the outermost transverse strips 17, 18, adjacent transverse strips being conductively unconnected with one another at least along the line joining the centre lines of the strips 15, 16, and the arrangement being such that owing to the capacitive and inductive coupling between adjacent strips, the device exhibits band-pass characteristics. The insulating sheet 12 can be a laminate of fibre glass bonded with silicone resin. The strips can be of copper and applied to the insulating sheet by a printing process. The ends of the input and output strips 15, 16 taper towards the transverse strips 17, 18. At least some of the transverse strips can be wholly unconnected conductively. The ends of at least one of the transverse strips can be connected conductively to the adjacent earth plane. In the construction shown in Fig. 3 one end of one of the transverse strips 19<SP>1</SP> is conductively connected at 22 to the adjacent end of the transverse strip on one side thereof and the other end to the adjacent end of the transverse strip on the other side thereof. A specific device is described which has a pass band between 5.5 and 6.5 kmc/s. cut-off between 6.5 and 9.0 kmc/s. and a second pass band between 9.0 and 11.0 kmc/s.
