Abstract
1,272,470. Windshields. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 23 Oct., 1969 [31 Oct., 1968], No. 52085/69. Heading B7J. [Also in Division H4] A motor vehicle aerial has a pair of conductors which are supported by a window in a metal body member of the vehicle. The conductors are disposed in reverse symmetry relative to each other, and each has a first portion which is close to said body member, and a second portion which is in the main part further from said body member, and has a terminal end. As described, fine-wire conductors 10, 12, Fig. 1, are L-shaped and are embedded in a plastics interlayer of a laminated windscreen 16 (alternatively, they may be fixed to the surface of the windscreen by transparent tape). The windscreen 16 is enclosed by a metallic body moulding 15, and portions A, A of the conductors 10, 12 are adjacent the top whilst portions B, B run down the centre and are connected to a foil contact 24. The inner conductor 30 of a coaxial cable 28 from a receiver 26 is also connected to the contact 24, and its outer conductor is connected to the moulding 14, which is earthed. It is stated that the aerial is effective over two spaced apart frequency bands, such as M.F. and V.H.F. broadcast bands. The portion B of the conduc- 10 may be of dissimilar length to the portion B of the conductor 12, to obtain enhanced performance at spaced frequencies in the V.H.F. band.
