Abstract

1337428 Web coating apparatus J M VOITH GmbH 12 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 53943/70 Heading D1L [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for coating flexible sheet material 10 comprises a nozzle 3 which ejects coating material on to the surface of a transfer roller 5 which in turn transfers the coating material to an applicator roller 6. The position of the nozzle relative to the transfer roller is adjustable by means of a ram 18. The rollers 5, 6 may be contrarotating or merely driven at different speeds in the same direction to meter the coating medium. In modifications the nozzle may eject the coating material directly on to the applicator roller or one or more intermediate rollers may be provided between the transfer roller and the applicator roller. The sheet to be coated may be pressed on the applicator by a backing roller 11 or by a continuous flexible band or by an air jet.
