Abstract

1336873 Rotary positive-displacement pumps. GENERAL ENG CO (RADCLIFFE) Ltd 19 April 1971 [31 Jan 1970] 4750/70 Heading FIF A liquid-sealed vacuum-pump has spring- loaded outwardly-sliding vanes 13 in a rotor 12, exhaust passages 15 in a stator 10 being controlled by a valve comprising flaps 19, 20 and a clamping plate 17. To facilitate the escape of liquid-gas mixture generated by the pumping action the flap 19 has apertures 21 therein overlapping adjacent passages and having a crosssectional area less than that of the passages. When the flaps are raised they are separated as shown in Fig. 3, some of the said mixture thus escaping through the apertures and the remainder between the flap 19 and the stator. This arrangement is said to reduce noise due to valve clatter. A single slot may replace the passages 15, a correspondingly smaller aperture than replacing the apertures 21.
