Abstract
1336787 Carbonic acid esters AKZO NV 20 July 1971 [21 July 1970] 34004/71 Heading C2C Mixed mono- and bis-carbonic acid esters, or in which R represents monovalent or divalent linear or branched alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl radical which may contain hetero atoms without active hydrogen, and R<SP>1</SP> represents a linear or branched alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aralkyl which may contain free hydroxyl groups and/or hetero atoms without any active hydrogen atoms, are prepared by reacting a trichloroacetate ester or with at least one or two mols. of alcohol of formula R<SP>1</SP>OH in the presence of a basic catalyst. Oxides or hydroxides of the metals of Group I and II of the Periodic Table, e.g. potassium carbonate and sodium alkoxide, and also pyridine may be used as catalysts. Examples describe the preparation of carbonic acid ethyl propyl and propyl butyl esters, methyl allyl carbonate, ethyl-[2-hydroxyethyl]- carbonate, methyl - [2 - methoxyethyl] - carbonate, ethylene glycol-bis-ethyl carbonate, and methyl-[2-ethoxy-ethyl]-carbonate.
