Abstract

1336653 Racks KRAMME & ZEUTHEN A S 29 Oct 1971 [11 Nov 1970] 50499/71 Heading A4B [Also in Divisions B3, E1] A box girder e.g. a bearer for a storage rack, is fabricated from two channel members 2 having bent-over portions 6, 7, 6', 7'of their flanges 4, 5, 4', 5', the channel members being assembled with one rotated 180 degrees relative to the other so that their flanges overlap and the bent-over portions of each member overlap the web of the other member, and thereafter the assembly being subjected to a rolling operation by two pairs of rollers engaging the outside of the assembly near the ends of the webs such that opposed web portions and the bent-over portions 6, 7, 6', 7' are pressed inwardly towards one another, whereby the bend portions 8, 8' between the flanges 4,4' and the portions 6, 6' are gripped and the portions 7, 7' are caused to grip the rounded portions 10, 10' to interlock the assembled members 2. In a modification Fig. 2, (not shown) the rolling operation is such that the whole of the webs are pressed inwardly relative to the web portions engaging the bend portions 8, 8' such as to avoid the hollows 11 at these positions. The ends of the girder may be equipped with connecting members (12), Fig.3, (not shown) for releasably connecting the girder to a column by interengaging fastening means comprising partially punched out tongues (14) bent to Z shape.
