Abstract
1336633 Extruding R A CREUZET 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1970] 21212/71 Heading B3P In an extrusion process in which a metal billet (e.g. of steel or titanium) is extruded through a drawplate 19 by a chisel 13 moved e.g. by a piston 12, the chisel has a cross section smaller than that of the billet, and a coating of a powdered refractory oxide such as alumina or zirconia is applied by the Schoop process (defined in the Specification) to the billet surface and has a retaining effect on that part of the billet immediately adjacent thereto whereby after extrusion, Fig. 2, there remains in the bore 16 of the billet holder 10 a thin skirt 27 of the billet metal. This skirt may subsequently be removed by cutting from the extrusion 22 and then expelling the skirt by an additional movement of the piston 12, from the bore 16.
