Abstract

1335263 Filling bombs IRECO CHEMICALS 11 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 1170/71 Heading F3A [Also in Division B8] A closure device for a bomb to be filled with an aerated viscous explosive, comprises an annular plug 74 screwed into the bomb, the plug having a bayonet joint to receive a filler tube 70. The pressurized explosive liquid is pumped through the tube, through a series of holes 85 in the wall 84 of the plug, past a resilient flap 86 and into the bomb. When no further liquid can be pumped in, the resilience of the flap 86, plus the pressure of the liquid in the bomb, seals the closure. If desired a further plug can be fitted in the threads 83. In another embodiment (Figs. 7, 8, not shown) the wall 84 may be dispensed with. A further embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) utilizes a two-part cap, one part for the filling liquid and the other having an outlet for escaping air, both of which are sealed after the bomb is full. In a final embodiment (Figs. 2, 3, not shown) the air outlet is separate from the liquid inlet and comprises a series of small holes which allow the egress of air but not the viscous liquid, which efFectivelv seals the outlet.
