Abstract

1334592 Flexible pipe couplings IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd and G T EYNON 10 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971] 2888/71 Heading F2G [Also in Division B7] In a flexible coupling between two duct parts 13, 20, an elastomeric ring 32 which is bonded on opposite sides to the parts 13, 20, to allow the parts relative angular movement, is protected by a proximity seal between complementary non-contacting surfaces 29, 30. As shown, a solid propellant rocket motor exhaust nozzle assembly has asbestos filled resin liners 6, 15, 16, 23 and 24 and a molybdenum choke ring 25 and shield 17 have a ball-and-socket relationship, to provide the proximity seal preventing the exhaust gases from attacking the ring 32. One or more actuators 9 moves the part 20 about one or more pivotal axes 28 to vary the thrust vector. When modified as a duct for transmitting domestic or industrial fluids, the actuator 9 may be omitted.
