Abstract

1334390 Drying ceramic articles THERMIQUE INDUSTRIELLE JACQUES COUDAMY SA 23 Dec 1970 [24 Dec 1969] 61236/70 Heading F4G Ceramic articles 16 are transported on an endless conveyer along a sinuous path 1 through an initial drying zone provided with radiant heating means in the form of a plurality of elements 7 (e.g. radiant plates, radiant tubes or electrical resistances) which are movable relative to each other and the articles so as to adapt the contour of the radiant heating means to that of an article 16. The articles 16 are formed by a machine 6 on to the moulds 15, are conveyed on the moulds 15 through the initial drying zone and are transferred from the moulds by a mechanism 3 to a final drying zone (not shown) employing radiant or hot air drying. The final drying zone may form an extension of the initial drying zone, or be above or beside it. Each mould 15 is carried by a carriage 13 running on two track rails 9 and connected to the endless conveyer chain 20. Each carriage 13 has three support rollers 17 and three guide rollers 8, and has a spring 12 to accommodate movement of the carriage around curves. The shaft 10 of one guide roller 8 carries a collar 11 frictionally engaging a mould support 14 so that the mould 15 is rotated by the advance of the conveyer. The conveyer is operated continuously.
