Abstract

1334199 Two-part couplings A REINING- HAUS 8 Feb 1972 [11 Feb 1971] 5822/72 Heading H2E A coupling device for connecting mains supply to a carrier rail A comprises a rectangular casing 13 open along one side, having a removable lid 39 in the opposite side and a plug-in portion 14 extending from one end adapted to be inserted into the rail and containing four current carrying contacts (15), 16 and an earthing contact 32 for connecting with conductor bars R, S, T, Mp and 11 in the track. The device is inserted into one end of the track and clamped therein by means of a guide plate 23 and a clamp plate 24 which are drawn together by a screw 41 so that they clamp around a web 28 of the track; the clamp plate 24 having an extension (24a) complementary with a guide 25 in the rail to ensure correct orientation. Each contact (15), 16 is resilient, anchored at one end 16b and protrudes at its other end 16a under the action of a spring 20 for engaging a respective conductor bar; screw-bushes 21, 50, 30 for receiving cables from the mains supply are provided at the one end of the contacts 16, (15), 32 respectively. The mains cables may be fed through an opening 36 in the other end of the casing or through the opening having the removable lid 39, the latter opening accommodating a collar (37) for supporting the cables. Other couplings devices may have two, three or four plug-in portions for connection to a plurality of rails. A stop-end (F) for the rail may be formed by omitting the contacts (15), 16, 32 from a coupling device.
