Abstract

853,500. Terminal blocks. SQUARE D CO. May 1, 1957 [May 16, 1956], No. 13804/57. Class 38(1) A terminal strip comprises an assembly of individual terminal units 2, spacing units 21 and end clamps 4, 5 detachably supported on a channel 3. Each unit 2 (Fig. 2) is of moulded insulation and comprises a connector 16 with clamping screws 18 and a stop 19 for inserted conductors, said connector being housed between barriers 8, 7 and aligned by a rib 9 co-operating with a groove 17, the unit having a pair of ribs 12 on one side and a pair of grooves 13 on the other for co-operation with grooves and ribs on other units. Extensions 31 on channel 3 co-operate with a T shaped slot 11 in the unit 2. The spacing unit 21 is used in terminating a row of terminal blocks and has two pairs of ribs 24 to co-operate with grooves 13 in units 2 one of which is reversed with respect to the other. Each end clamp (Fig. 8) is a U-shaped member having slots formed by portions 35, 36 on legs 33, 34 respectively to receive extensions 31 on channel 3, the clamp being slid along the channel until finger 38 lies between the ribs 12 on a unit 2 when screws 37 are tightened on to the channel 3 to secure the clamp. The clamp may alternatively (Fig. 9 not shown) be in two parts. An indicia strip 41 lies in slots 14 and 23 in units 2 and 21.
