Abstract
1333518 Steel refining ACIERIES REUNIES DE BURBACH-EICH-DUDELANGE S A 22 May 1972 [21 May 1971 9 Nov 1971 20 March 1972] 23940/72 Heading C7D A method for the production of steel with a controlled phosphorus content comprises the preparation of the re-phosphorizing reactions during tapping of steel from a refining furnace by avoiding any decrease in the activity of the oxygen in the melt while the metal in the vessel is intimately mixed with the slag with which it is entrained and no de-oxidizing agent and no alloying agent is added until a time has elapsed for the slag to separate out and form a layer on the surface of the steel in the vessel and sufficient to permit interface reactions between the slag and metal to terminate. A dephosphorising slag mixture containing lime, iron oxide, and a fluidizer may be poured into the teeming ladle in the form of a powder at the beginning of tapping or the mixture may be projected against the tapping jet or blown into the melt by means of a plunging lance.
