Abstract
1333184 Drilling ROSTOVSKY-NA-DONU INSTITUT SELSKOKHOZYAISTVENNOGO MASHINOSTROENIA 13 May 1971 14740/71 Heading B3B [Also in Divisions Gl and G3] A control system in an ultrasonic drilling tool comprises a magnetostrictive transducer 4, responsive to the axial force on the tool, and from which a signal is passed via diode bridge 6, amplifier 8 and transformer 9 to a synchronous detector 10 of which the output energizes a polarized relay 11 controlling via D.C. motor 17 and variable resistor 18, 19 the bias on the reactance valve in the ultrasonic oscillator (not shown) to vary the oscillator frequency so as to maintain the tool force at a minimum value. Temperature compensation of the transducer is effected by use of a similar but unloaded transducer 5 and bridge 7. The reference signal to the detector 10 is supplied from an F.M. signal generator 20 via transformer 23. The amplifier 8 includes at its input a high-pass filter.
