Abstract

1333065 Bearings BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 19 April 1971 [18 March 1970] 12997/70 Heading F2A [Also in Division B3] The driving shaft 18 of a roll 20 in a rolling mill is supported in a bearing assembly 60 which preloads the shaft axially and radially. The assembly includes a self-aligning spherical roller bearing 62 flanked by thrust bearings 63 and 64. A very slight universal pivotal movement of the shaft about point 61 is permitted by the assembly. By introducing hydraulic fluid into a chamber 70, the assembly is preloaded against an opposed wall 72 of a bearing housing.
