Abstract
1332420 Preparation of catechol and hydroquinone MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970 7 April 1971] 57504/71 Heading C2C Catechol and hydroquinone are prepared by oxidizing phenol with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of at least one metallic ion selected from copper, chromium, bismuth, molybdenum, vanadium, titanium and yttrium. The metallic ion may be in the form of an inorganic or organic salt or an organic complex, e.g. a chloride, sulphate, nitrate or phosphate, formate or acetate or acetylacetonate.
