Abstract

1,127,448. Metal complexes of sulphoalkylated tannins. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. 21 Dec., 1965, No. 54176/65. Heading C2C. [Also in Division E1] The invention comprises complexes of sulphoalkylated tannins with Fe, Cu, Cr, Ni, Co, Mn, Zn, Al, Ti and/or V. These metals appear to be complexed, at least in part, by the phenolic OH groups in the tannins and the remaining active sites in the aromatic ring structure therein are said to be susceptible to sulphoalkylation; the latter step involves the introduction of sidechains -CR 2 -SO 3 M by reaction with R 2 CO and a metal sulphite (R=H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or alkaryl; M=NH 4 or an alkali metal).
