Abstract
1332041 Electroless plating R C A CORPORATION 20 April 1971 [ 21 April 1970 (3) 30 March 1971] 10065/71 Heading C7F [ Also in Divisions B2 and H1] A conductive pattern, e.g. a printed circuit having through holes, is formed on a substrate of e.g. epoxy, phenolic or polyester laminates or metal e.g. steel, Al or brass or semiconductor materials by applying an uncured thermosetting resin, heating, abrading, contacting with a water containing liquid then an oxidizing solution, sensitizing with a reducing agent, e.g. stannous chloride, activating with a noble metal (Pd U 2 ) electrolessly depositing a metal e.g. Cu and then curing the resin. The resin may be applied by immersion or by a fluidized bed process in two separate steps. After abrading the resin coating, it may be soaked in water, nitric acid and then sodium hydroxide. A pattern may be formed on the metal coating with a resist, and then electroplated with copper from a copper pyrophosphate bath. The resist is removed with trichloroethylene. Copper exposed by the resist is removed by etching in ammonium persulphate.
