Abstract

1331919 Impact wrenches GARDNERDENVER CO 30 June 1972 [29 Nov 1971] 30686/72 Heading B3N A fluid operated impact wrench comprises a motor 16 including a rotor 18, a rotatable anvil 68, a drive member 36 drivingly connected to the rotor, a hammer member 50 drivingly connected to the drive member, means including the hammer member defining: an expansible chamber 54, means for admitting pressure fluid to the expansible chamber and a drive coupling, pin 60 and a triangularly shaped slot 62, interconnecting said hammer member and said drive member for providing rotational acceleration of said hammer member with respect to said drive member in response to the admission of pressure fluid to said expansible chamber. Fluid enters chamber 54 in a passage 86 in the rotor, passages 82 and 84 in anvil 68 and passage 90. Fluid is exhausted when passage 90 co-operates with a slot 88 in the anvil which is in communication with a further passage 92. When the hammer member is forced forward pin 62 co-operates with surface 64 to rotate it relative to the drive member. The wrench is reversible and may be constructed to deliver two impacts per revoluttion.
