Abstract

998,768. Overload slip couplings. REED ROLLER BIT CO. April 27, 1962 [May 16, 1961], No. 16250/62; Heading F2C. [Also in Division B3] An impact tool comprises a fluid pressure motor 2, having slidable vanes 4 urged to the left, Fig. 1, by a spring 12, a rotatable anvil 22, a hammer 33 splined at 32 in the rotor 3, a sleeve 37 having a cam face 71 which is engageable with a roller 56, and a rotatable shaft 59, having lobes 67 for engagement with dogs 30 on anvil 22. Fluid pressure is supplied through an inlet valve 19, passages 40, 41, a reversing valve 42, ports 43, 44, and passages 45, 46, to rotate motor 2. Roller 56 rotates with rotor 3 and engages face 71 on sleeve 37, to rotate the latter. A slot 68 in sleeve 37 engages flats 63 on shaft 59, and the latter is rotated to thus rotate anvil 22. Dogs 30, 35 are normally held apart by a spring 64, but as the resistance to rotation of anvil 22 reaches a predetermined figure, spring 64 is compressed, and hammer 33 produces a hammer blow. Lubricant is supplied from a reservoir 48 through a porous plug 51.
