Abstract

1331752 Conjugate filaments IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 Sept 1971 [10 Sept 1970] 43411/70 Heading B5B A conjugate filament having improved adhesion between the component polymers comprises a polyester and a polyamide, the polyester component containing from 1 to 10% by weight, preferably 2 to 5% by weight, of an additive comprising a polymeric aromatic ester of carbonic acid. Preferrred additives are the polyarylene polycarbonates. The polyester component suitably has a carboxyl content of not greater than 25g./10<SP>6</SP> g. In examples conjugate side-by-side and corein-sheath filaments are melt spun from polyethylene terephthalate containing 2-5% by weight 2,2<SP>1</SP>-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane polycarbonate, and Nylon 6 : 6 or a copolymer of polyhexamethylene adipamide and polyhexamethyleneterephthalamide and are stretched over a snubbing pin maintained at 95-100 ‹C. In Example 1 the filaments are further stretched over a hot plate at 125 ‹C, knitted into panels, scoured and dyed in water at 95‹ C. to develop the filament crimp.
