Abstract

1,211,118. Polyester/block polyamide-polyether filaments. TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc. 9 Feb., 1968, No. 6589/68. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] Filaments with improved antistatic and dyeing properties over polyesters comprise a high molecular weight linear polyester (or a block copolymer of the polyester with up to 30 weight per cent polyamide) and a polyetherpolyamide block copolymer having 0À05 to 20 weight per cent polyether based on the total polymer content. The polyether-polyamide may contain less than 85 weight per cent of the polyether segments, and the block copolymer may be obtained from polyethylene glycol and polycaproamide. The polyester may be polyethylene terephthalate and when in the form of a block copolymer the polyamide may be polycaproamide. The filament may be melt extruded as an intimate blend, or a conjugate sheath-core or side-by-side filament. The latter conjugate filament develops crimps in boiling water. In Example 8 compositions containing 5 weight per cent of additional polymers of polyethylene adipate, polypropylene or polystyrene are disclosed. The fibres are heat drawn after extrusion.
