Abstract
1331277 Piston packing P L PANIGATI 10 Nov 1970 [11 Nov 1969] 53462/70 Heading F2T The packing between a piston 5, Fig, 1 and a tubular housing is obtained by means of a tubular element 2 of resilient material having a thickness greater than the shortest distance between the piston periphery and the tubular housing so that the element is compressed against the housing by the piston which is provided with convex periphery. The element 2 may be made of rubber or plastics material and mounted in tension between cylinder heads 3. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 3, the element may be spaced from the housing, the gap so formed being either sealed from the fluid in the working space or in communication therewith by means of holes 10. The fluid trapped within the gap on one side of the piston may communicate with the fluid within the gap on the other side. If desired, the piston and housing may be of square cross-section.
