Abstract

1330706 Washing machines STEINER CO LAUSANNE SA 17 Nov 1970 [25 Nov 1969] 54699/70 Heading DIA Apparatus for loosening soil on towel rolls 101 comprises a slatted conveyor 190 in a casing with walls 143 for retaining the rolls 101 and troughs 245 extending transversely of the apparatus for cascading liquid onto the rolls to saturate them, excess liquid draining between the slats 211. Liquid draining between the slats runs down a drip pan 380, divided into zones by walls 382, and through a respective pipe 398 to a mixing cylinder 415. Solid and liquid detergents or other additives from containers 452 and 440 (Fig. 15) and water from a pipe 480, disposed tangentially of the cylinder 415 and controlled by a solenoidoperated valve actuated by a float 493, are mixed with the drained liquid in the cylinder 415 and pass through an outer cylinder 416 to a sump 400 from where a pump 495 delivers the liquid to a heater 502 and thence through a pipe 340 to the respective trough 245. The temperature is preferably different in adjacent troughs. The troughs 245 have rollers 267 engaging rails 270 at each end, are interconnected by rods (280) (Figs. 17, 19 not shown) and are reciprocated within respective zones by a pin 305 (Fig. 12) on an endless chain 330 and engaging a slot 299 of a yoke 295 secured to one of the troughs 245. The apparatus described may be used for the first stage of a laundering process further using a washer (525) (Fig. 2, not shown) described in Specification 1290960, a rinser (710) described in co-pending application 54686/70 a bleach sprayer (900), a conveyor (905), a further rinser (710a), a water extractor (925), described in Specification 1320942 and a drying tunnel (1025).
