Abstract
1330496 Buffers; on-and-off castors J S SIEDER 20 Nov 1970 [19 Feb 1970] 8120/70 Heading A4U [Also in Division El] A floor-engaging pad device for the foot of a wheeled step ladder, elevated platform, etc., comprises a pad 18 whose undersurface is frictionally engageable with the floor surface, and a wheel 20 mounted on an upstanding spigot 21 on the pad and freely rotatable about a vertical axis and being sufficiently large to cover the whole pad, thereby to act as a buffer to protect the pad from collisions. The pad 18 preferably comprises a rubber disc 22 grooved on its underside and held in a cup-shaped member 32 to the centre of which is welded the upstanding spigot 21 which is to be secured inside the end 17 of a tube forming part of an outrigged foot of the ladder frame. The wheel 20, which may have a peripheral rubber tyre 24, is rotatably retained around the enlarged base 36 of the spigot by a cirelip 37. In a wheeled step ladder, etc., each pad device is disposed adjacent an associated spring-loaded castor 16 relative to which the ladder moves downwardly when loaded, and the pads then engage the floor. A modified pad device is described.
