Abstract
1330321 Lithographic plates EASTMAN KODAK CO 13 Oct 1970 [13 Oct 1969] 48580/70 Heading B6C A lithographic master is prepared on material such as a grained aluminium plate by an electrophotographic method in which a developed image is transferred to thea luminium plate by process steps involving the application of ten successive electrical potentials the second being the reverse polarity of the first. The first electrical potential is for polarity opposite to that holding the image such that the image is repelled from the aluminium plate. This allows the plate and the surface supporting the image to be properly adjusted without any possibility of image transfer. The second potential of reversal polarity has the effect of transferring the image. The repelling potential may be between 50 and 250 volts whilst the transfer potential may be between 400 and 600 volts. The imaged plate may be rendered oleophobic in the non-image areas by treatment with an aqueous gum arabiephosphoric acid solution. The surface supporting the developed image may be transparent such that a flooding exposure is given through the surface prior to or during application of the transfer potential.
