Abstract

1330289 Offshore structures TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 19 April 1971 [6 April 1970] 25904/71 Heading E1H [Also in Division B7] A subsea mooring anchor 14 for an offshore buoyant marine platform, is formed from detachable ballastable, hollow base and cap members 18, 19 respectively which together define a cavity 23 in which a spherical or hemispherical ballastable dimpled coupling member 16 is adjustably located. An upstanding connecting post 22 on the coupling member 16 is adapted to engage a depending leg of the marine platform (10 Fig. 1 not shown) so as to allow limited oscillation and vertical movement of the platform above the marine anchor. For installation, the assembled anchor is towed to the offshore site, the base member 18 is controllably ballasted to lower it to the seabed, on guide lines 45. Coupling member 16 is then controllably lowered into recess 38 on the base member, and finally cap member 19 is controllably lowered onto base member 18 to enclose coupling member 16, the co-operating projections and recesses 34, 33 respectively correctly locating the base and cap members. Tension on line 37 secured to connecting post 22 causes coupling member 16 to rotate in cavity 23 until post 22 is located uprightly whatever the gradient of the seabed, whereafter cement is passed through ducts 43, 39 to unitise the component parts of the anchor to fix the coupling member 16 in position.
