A seed from dispensing tube 1 drops between open grabs 2, 3 onto the ground off seed receiving member 8 which is provided with a transmitter that transmits a pulse, whenever a seed falls on member 8, to the electronic control system 13 which causes electro-mechanical actuators 6, 7 to close the grab members 2, 3 after a given time lag chosen to allow the next seed to fall between them, and hold this seed just below tube 1, thereby blocking it. After a delay governed by travelling speed sensor 14 another transmitted impulse to control system 13 causes grab members 2, 3 to be opened and the seed they have been holding is dropped onto member 8 and then falls onto the ground. The process is repeated continuously. Potatoes or other seeds may be planted, the members 2, 3 having an appropriate form.
