Abstract

1330113 Doctor blades J M VOITH GmbH 19 April 1971 [17 March 1970] 24150/71 Heading D1L In a doctor device for removing excess coating from a moving web, a doctor blade 13 contacts the web, which passes around a roller 4, on inflation of an inflatable rubber tube 14 which is seated in a strip 15 and held in position by a spring steel sleeve 16. The device is shown in its inoperative position, inflation of the tube 14 elongating the sleeve 16 and moving the blade 13 which contacts it towards the web. In the described embodiment the web is of paper and is coated by contact with a roller rotating partly immersed in a trough and having a second roller, also partly immersed in the trough, and rotating in the same direction, contacting it to transfer a coating composition to it for transfer to the web. The roller which contacts the web has its surface in contact with it moving in the opposite direction to the web.
