Abstract

1329916 Electro-plating apparatus NIPPON KOKAN K K 19 April 1971 [24 Aug 1970] 25600/71 Heading C7B Electro-plating apparatus for plating a plurality of cylindrically-shaped articles comprises waveshaped cathode means for supporting and electrically connecting the articles, a mechanism for pressing the articles against the cathode means during current supply the articles and means whereby the pressure can be released, the positions of the articles varied relative to their supports and the pressure reapplied. As shown, the cathode means comprises a wire 2 having a wave-shaped portion 7, Fig. 1. Two such wires are spaced apart and articles 1, Fig. 2, are supported therebetween in the troughs of the waves. Insulated wires 14, Fig.3, press the articles 1 into contact with uninsulated parts of the cathode supporting wires. Anodes 8 are provided above and below the articles and a supplementary anode wire 9, Fig.2, insulated except at its end is provided opposite the a recessed end of an article 1. Cranks 21 are operated to activate and inactivate the pressing mechanism and also to move a mechanism 15, 16, 17 which varies the articles' positions while they are released from pressure. Glass rods 16 of the mechanism are moved so that their ends take the path indicated at X and X' in Fig. 1. During this motion, the rods 16 contact the articles and move them relative to the cathode supports. During this movement, the electrolysing current is stopped. A magnet may be arranged beneath the cathode supports to attract articles towards them. The apparatus may be used for fused salt Al plating or for plating with metals other than Al in aqueous solution.
