Abstract

1329132 Bonded fibre fabrics CARL FREUDENBERG 28 Oct 1970 [6 Nov 1969] 51272/70 Heading D1R [Also in Division B2] A discontinuous coating of a heat sensitive adhesive is applied to a corded cross-lapped non-woven fabric of 55-98% first fibres and 2-45% second lower melting, fibres which is consolidated by hot calendering at 100-200‹C to soften the second fibres, then impregnated with a dispersion or solution of a second binder. The first fibres may comprise cotton, nylon 6, nylon 66, polyester or other fibres with a melting point above 230‹C, or a mixture of the above fibres. The second fibres may be nyion 6, 11 or 12, copolyamides such as nylon 6/66, 6/11, 6/12, 66/11 or 66/12, ethylylene terephthalate/isophthalate copolymer, or ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer, a plasticiser being added if necessary to lower the melting point. Calendering, using a metal calender and a rubber belt, or a suction drum, may be carried out at a temperature and pressure such that the second fibres soften, or such that they lose their fibre structure. The consolidated fleece has a density of 0.12 to 0.16. It is impregnated with an aqueous dispersion of butadiene/ chloroprene, butadiene/acrylonitrile/methlyolocrylamide or butadiene/styrene/methacrylic acid plus a trimethylolated melamine resin for crosslinking, or with a dispersion of acrylic ester or polyurethane, or with a dimethylformamide solution of polyurethane formed from glycol adipate, 1,4-butadiene and diphenylmethane diisocyanate. The binder may be coagulated, by heat, water or other solvent acrylonitrile/methylolocrylamide or butadiene/ styrene/methacrylic acid, plus a trimethylolated melamine resin for cross-linking, or with a dispersion of acrylic ester or polyurethane, or with a dimethylformamide solution of polyurethane formed from glycol adipate, 1,4-butadiene and diphenylmethane diisocyanate. The binder may be coagulated, by heat, water or other solvent. A discontinuous coating of polyethylene, polyamide, polyacrylate or polyvinyl chloride plasticised with benzyl butyl phthalate or other heat sensitive adhesive is applied by printing, spraying or the scattering of powder. The fleece is used as an interlining, being laminated to the outer layer of a garment by hot-pressing. The binders are dry cleaning resistant.
