Abstract

1329048 Flexible points ELEKTRO-THERMIT GmbH 25 Aug 1971 [26 Aug 1970] 39935/71 Heading E1G In a railway switch wherein the tongues 3, 4 have resilient parts 10, 11 adjacent to fixed heels on rails 1, 2 and have means for bending them between either of two positions in which they adjoin eithier main rails 5, 7 or branch rails 6, 8, wedges 32-35 are slidably mounted on the sides of rails 5-8 and have means for sliding them selectively into or out of a position in which they bridge the gaps 28-31 between the tongues and the rails to thereby either lock or release the tongues. The means for moving the tongues and wedges may comprise double acting pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders 18-27; 38-41 or electrical or mechanical means. Guides may be provided in the tongues to receive the wedges, which wedges may be of nickel steel coated with P.T.F.E. and may be adjustably mounted. There may be two wedges per gap 28-31.
