Abstract

1328991 Moulding diaphragms BTR INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Dec 1970 [15 Jan 1970] 2059/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division G1] A diaphragm for a gas meter is moulded from a woven nylon sheet 17 coated with nitrile rubber, which is stretched over a recess 13 of a vacuum tool, and then drawn into the recess by vacuum at 16 before being vulcanized in the tool and a sealing ring that has been placed in the groove 19 is bonded to the diaphragm. The sheet is secured to the tool by vacuum applied to a peripheral recess 20. In Figs. 3, 4, not shown, a sheet is fed through a vacuum tool (10) by rolls (24), (26) and a punch (23) is lowered on to the tool to clamp the sheet, punch locating holes (33), and partially seals the diaphragm from the sheet. In Fig. 5, not shown, a sealing ring is formed by a compression tool (51) which lowers on to the vacuum mould (37), and in Fig. 6, not shown, the sealing ring is applied by a transfer moulding plate (43). The recess in the diaphragm can be circular.
