Abstract

1328810 Xanthane-gum adhesives HENKEL & CIE GmbH 27 Aug 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 41211/70 Heading C3U [Also in Division B2] An adhesive, for application to articles having coverings of paper, cardboard or paste-board so as to prevent sliding or riding up in packaging, comprises an aqueous colloidal solution of xanthane-gum. The gum may have been formed by the action of Xanthomonas Campestius on glucose or starch solutions. The adhesive, preferably comprises 0À1-2% by weight of xanthane-gum. Up to 0À3% by weight of further water-soluble colloid may be present, e.g. a cellulose ether or starch product. A water-soluble polymerizate, e.g. polyvinyl ether, polyvinyl pyrrolidone or polyvinyl alcohol, may also be present, in an amount of 1-15% by weight. An organic or inorganic filler (0À1-10% by weight) may be included in the adhesive, e.g. silicic acid, calcium or aluminium silicate, starch, ground cellulose, melamine resins or urea resins. The adhesive preferably has a pH of 6-8.
