Abstract

1328596 Sintered carbide compositions TOSHIBA TUNGALOY CO Ltd 14 Dec 1971 [1 Oct 1971] 58082/71 Heading C7A A hard sintered composition comprises, in weight per cent:- (a) 10 to 50% of a binder which itself consists of 25 to 70% molybdenum and/or molybdenum carbide and 30 to 75% iron, cobalt and/or nickel. (b) Up to 5% of zirconium carbide. (c) Balance titanium carbide or titanium carbide and tantalum carbide wherein the weight of the tantalum carbide is less than the weight of the titanium carbide. Preparation The various powdered ingredients are milled together, cold-pressed into compacts, presintered in hydrogen or 650‹C and then final sintered in an induction furnace at 1,350‹C in an inert atmosphere, e. g. dry hydrogen, argon or helium, while maintaining a very low pressure in the furnace.
